When I bought mine, I heard it had some kind of bass functionality but I really did not see much about it out in the world. I am not complaining, but just trying to be realistic about the expectation you might have for such an amp. If you want to use the Spark amp AS A BASS PRACTICE AMP i wouldn't buy it, it isn't worth buying. If you wanted to use it to use headphones, or go direct to recording from the built in amp models, the amp is totally totally worth it. It isn't a huge issue, but it does make it more apparent that the amp really wasn't adequately engineered for bass application. I have also noticed another minor issue, in that i haven't really been able to tune any but the higher bass strings with the built in tuner at all.
and if you use the 5 string, the effect on those lower strings is even worse. On the settings of most bass amp models, IF you plug in the 4 string, all of the lower notes lack the real low low sub frequencies, and tons and tons of the subsonic sort of sounds on all output from the amps speakers. It's almost like the Spark amp just needs some kind of accessory sub woofer they didn't make available or something? If you plug the headphone output to an actual bass amp, the bass tone you can get from the Spark is out of this world. Whatever it is, the odd thing is that if you use headphones they 100% carry all the frequencies the bass uses. The amp, it might be crossing them over and ditching the lower end ones completely? I've seen that happen on plenty of consumer audio equipment in an effort to sound more clean (especially car audio). The thing the amp really does not have however, is any real output of many of the lower frequencies you need to replicate to try to actually play the bass through it. The spark amp does have the raw juice to do it from the perspective of the amplifier inside, at the very least. The amp can be moderately loud in a living room situation, and keep up with other practice amps OK. It definitley has some issues, but it's a thing that is more feasible than using your bass into an older generation guitar practice amp like a peavey rage 158. Overall the amp can be used for bass some. My thoughts on using the Spark with a bass, which is an advertised feature at least, if perhaps a feature that isn't exactly in the core of the amp's operation.
